Hints with Canwell parish is in Lichfield District, about 4 miles south of Lichfield, 4 miles northeast of Sutton Coldfield, and 3 miles southwest of Tamworth. It is at the very southeast of Staffordshire and the parish has borders with both Warwickshire and Birmingham.

The parish is entirely within greenbelt and comprises the two small settlements of Hints and Canwell. There are about 270 electors, of which one third are residents of Canwell, and two thirds are residents of Hints. At the 2011 census there were 355 residents, of which 16% were aged under 18, and 21% aged over 65. But despite its small population it has a strong community spirit, and there are two well-used community halls where regular social events take place. Each year Canwell hosts the Canwell Show, which is one of the largest and oldest agricultural shows in the Midlands.

And although it is a small rural parish, it still manages to include a large gravel quarry, a 1,000 foot tall radio mast, the route of HS2, an old Roman road (Watling Street), and the modern M6 Toll, A38 and A5. A map showing the parish boundary is available here: Hints with Canwell Parish Map
